Amanda Lay, Xcel Director
Gymnastics has been a part of my life from a very young age. I started gymnastics around the age of 3. I competed at the Optional level until injuries got the best of me. At the age of 16, I started coaching for Brown’s Gymnastics. I graduated from UNLV in 2010 with a BA in Kinesiology. I have coached and run rec programs, coached all levels of compulsory, and currently run and coach all of the levels of the Brown’s Xcel Team Program. I am also an optional rated USAG judge. Gymnastics has been and will always be a huge part of my life.
Kate Underwood, Coach/Judge
Kate has been a part of the Brown’s Family for 20 years, and a member of the staff for 16. She currently coach levels 6-10. However, through her years at Brown’s she has had the privilege of coaching preschool, developmental, and team level gymnastics. Brown’s had truly been a second family for Kate.
Growing up she was a competitive gymnast through age 13, when injuries switched her path to diving. Through this path she earned a scholarship to the University of Nebraska and was a member of the swim & dive team from 1999-1994.
She has 4 daughters who competed for Brown’s They each went on to earn scholarships in other sports (diving, track, pole vault, and swimming) but give credit to their strong gymnastics foundation for their success.
Fun fact- in 2022 She started running competitively and just completed my first 50k ultramarathon to celebrate her 50th birthday.
